How to use this template

  1. Agree the sprint goal. Start with one sentence describing the outcome of the sprint. Every committed item should contribute to it.
  2. Calculate capacity. Subtract leave and holidays, apply a focus factor and convert hours to points using recent velocity.
  3. Pull items from the top of the backlog. Take refined, estimated items in priority order until the total approaches capacity.
  4. Confirm acceptance criteria. Make sure every item has clear, testable criteria the team understands.
  5. Commit and share. Record the committed total, share the plan with stakeholders and start the sprint.

Tips

  • Commit to 80–90% of capacity to leave room for surprises.
  • If an item is bigger than a few days of work, split it before planning.
  • Review carry-over from the last sprint before adding new work.

Run it as a live board instead

Spreadsheets go out of date the moment the sprint starts. In Taskmei the same information lives on a live board: backlog items, sprints, risks and Definition of Done stay current and feed dashboards automatically. Use this template in Taskmei on the free plan.
