How to use this template
- Name the user. Use a specific role or persona rather than 'user', for example 'support agent' or 'first-time customer'.
- Describe the goal, not the solution. Write what the person wants to do, leaving the implementation to the team.
- Explain the benefit. The 'so that' clause is what lets the product owner prioritise the story.
- Add 3–5 acceptance criteria. Make each one testable and include the important edge cases.
- Estimate together. Estimate story points as a team during refinement, then set priority.
Tips
- Check each story against INVEST: Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Small, Testable.
- If you have more than five acceptance criteria, consider splitting the story.
